Straight or direct Translation is a more literal translation of the source text, almost word for word, focussing on the correct terminology and phraseology, with minimal changes to syntax and style in the target text. This type of translation is ideal for less creative, more technical and repetitive texts in a wide variety of fields including law, medicine, engineering, science and finance. It is also ideal for machine translation, especially longer texts of more than several thousand words.
Adaptation is a more creative form of translation with more changes to the target text in syntax, style, vocabulary and expressions. It is much less literal and word-for-word, but more about conveying the meaning in the target text. Movie titles French and English are a good example. This type of translation is more suitable for literature, advertising, marketing (including SEO), films (subtitling), social sciences, humanities, fine arts, academia, and anything of a general nature. However, it’s not generally suitable for machine translation, especially shorter texts of several hundred words.

Revision is the editing of a translated text by comparing it to the original to check for any inaccuracy in translations (incorrect terminology or phrases), missed text (text that was not translated), Gallicisms (also called false friends), and to ensure that the translated text reads as if originally written in the target language, which may require stylistic, structural and copy editing (see below).
Editing: There are four kinds – structural, stylistic, copy and proofreading.
- Structural editing – Rewriting and/or moving text within or between paragraphs or pages for better flow and comprehension, or chronology.
- Stylistic editing – Similar to structural editing but on a lesser scale. It’s more about word choice, diction, expressions, sentence and paragraph structure, syntax and some rewriting.
- Proofreading – Editing basic mechanics and blatant errors including typos, misspellings, grammar mistakes (wrong tenses, misplaced modifiers, dangling modifiers), spacing and font problems, punctuation, caps or lowercase, wordiness, diction, etc. If text is moved or added, it is usually only a word or two within a sentence.
- Copy editing – A combination of stylistic and structural editing and proofreading to prepare a document for copy.
Good SEO marketing improves a website’s rankings on search engines, resulting in increased website traffic. It’s a way to promote brand loyalty, grow your customer base and boost your sales.
Content writing is crucial to SEO marketing and involves descriptive text (titles, headings, paragraphs, image labels and descriptions, call to actions, etc.) with specific key words and expressions that have a higher chance of being picked up by Google and other search engines.
Content writing is more than using the right words on your website. It also requires tools to support your website and link back to it, including blogs, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, etc.) and backlinks – where your site is referenced on another website that your site also links to (this can include publishing short articles on other websites).
Our team of creative thinkers can write your content from scratch or translate and edit existing content.
